Digital Signage – How to stream to decoder boxes
What you need: miniCASTER®/nanoCASTER®, one or more VideoWeb TV, M 11 plattform Set-Top-Boxes for Euros 149.- retail (we tested this box successfully, you may try others, they should support HLS) and Wowza MediaServer or a CDN with Wowza Server infrastructure (like TV1) and a webserver.
Follow this instruction to receive the perfect result: Connect a live signal (we use the signal of a German TV station , HSE24) to your miniCASTER®/nanoCASTER®
Take your VideoWeb TV Set-Top-Box and connect it to your network and with HDMI to your TV-Screen or any other display
Use your Wowza Media Server with active Cupertino Packetizer in your application for HLS (Apple HTTP Livestreaming)
As a webserver you can use for example Apache or LightHTTP
Add following example code to the index.html:
<?xml version=”1.0″ encoding=”UTF-8″?>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN”
<title>miniCASTER® My first Videoweb Box Teststream</title>
<object type=”video/mp4″ id=”myvid” data=”http://myurl.tld /myWowzaApplicationname/streamname/playlist.m3u8″ width=”1280″ height=”720″></object>
Upload the index.html to your webserver.
Now we should configure your miniCASTER®/nanoCASTER® over the remote management:
Go to http://my.minicaster.com – select the miniCASTER®/nanoCASTER® device you want to use
Set the right bandwith – not too high for the existing enviroment
Open Delivery profile
Set the delivery mode to “RTP”
Set the delivery mode to “RTMP”
(Please note that this delivery mode, is available only with the new Firmware version 1.3.1)
Enter the IP adress or Hostname of the WowzaMediaServer you want to stream to. Enter under “port” the port number, where the Application is available. Note: the port must be open and should not be blocked by a firewall
Enter the IP adress or hostname of the WowzaMediaServer you want to stream to.
Enter the Applicationname in the field “Application/Instance” and the Stream Name in the field “Stream Name”
Attention! - If you are behind a router:
Enter your external IP Address (WAN / Internet), not the LAN Address in the host field. If you don’t know what’s your external IP Address try http://www.whatismyip.com/ or ask your network
administrator. Set a port forwarding rule on your router for your WAN streaming port to the LAN port for the LAN IP Address of the PC, where you want to watch your stream (e.g. WAN port 12345
forwarded to LAN port 12345 for LAN IP 192.168.1.23). If you don’t know how to do that, this tutorial may help you.
Start streaming with your miniCASTER®
Connect your VideoWeb TV Set-Top-Box to your network and your TV-Screen
Power on the VideoWeb TV Set-Top-Box
Open the browser of your VideoWeb TV Set-Top-Box
Enter the URL where you put the e.g. index.html press the Enter Button on your virtual Keyboard or the OK Button on your Remote after some seconds the Livestream of your miniCASTER® should be visible on your TV-Screen
Finally the result: a fine, clear picture of your encoded video signal. In our example we used the HSE24 TV channel signal as input.
You may add more decoder boxes to your server to extend your reach.
